I am an assistant professor in the Department of Software Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology starting from August, 2020. I also lead the hil-se lab.

Before coming to RIT, I earned my Ph.D. degree of Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University where I worked in the RAISE (RAISE) lab under the supervision of Dr. Tim Menzies for five years. Before my Ph.D. study, I earned my M.S. degree of Control Science and Engineering from The Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, where I also got my B.S. degree of Automation.

I believe that "human AND AI" is much more powerful than "human OR AI", That is, I work towards a world where human and artificial intelligence are partners, checking the conclusions of each other, while at the same time taking full advantage of these different kinds of intelligence. In my future, AI does not replace humans: it makes humans better by directing human effort to the most valuable places while also monitoring the quality of human works.

I am hiring two Ph.D. students for the incoming Fall 2021 semester with full financial support. Apply here and email me for interest.
